Proactive analyser management and Peer Quality Control (peer QC)

Implementing the AQURE POC IT solution and its peer QC module has improved both productivity and efficiency at The Jikei University Hospital.

Here, Assistant Chief Scientist Mr. Akito Kawai of the hospital’s Department of Central Clinical Laboratory, shares the impact of peer QC on how the laboratory functions.

Centralising QC management

Before implementing the AQURE peer QC module, QC was a tedious process. Staff had to extract data from devices individually, then transfer that data to a PC for management. Luckily, with AQURE, devices can be managed from a centralised point.

Peer QC empowers the team to proactively troubleshoot issues by comparing the QC performance of ABL analysers with those of a selected peer group.

This centralised approach has made everything – from analyser maintenance to QC management – more convenient and efficient.

When we didn’t have AQURE, checking instruments’ status daily took almost half a day in and of itself. Now we can use AQURE, everyone is saying how much easier it is.

Compliant reporting made easy

The AQURE Peer Quality Control module generates a monthly, inspection-ready report documenting QC results, issues and corrective actions, so the team have the data they need at their fingertips.

Better still, the report can be used to comply with ISO 15189 reporting requirements, without any changes.

This reporting capability not only makes compliance more straightforward, but has a profound impact on workflow and day-to-day management activities, too.

For instance, the peer QC comparison status module’s color coded alerts make it easy to identify and address potential issues.

I truly believe the amount of time and effort we’re saving is significant because these days, it’s important we try to optimise our staff’s time and help make them more efficient. The AQURE Peer Quality Control module has allowed us to reallocate people to other tests or tasks that need attention.

Leveraging the future value of AQURE

Integrating the peer QC module into the team’s regular use of AQURE has made both daily and monthly quality control easier.

The value of having more time for other tasks has prompted the team to scale up their use of AQURE to further improve efficiency.
